Ombu Village Cultural Experience

At Ombu Cultural Village, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the rich heritage of the Ovaherero people. The village showcases traditional homesteads, offering a glimpse into the daily life and customs of this vibrant culture. The tour includes demonstrations of food preparation and traditional crafts, providing a hands-on experience.

One of the standout features is the striking traditional dress worn by Ovaherero women. Their attire is centered around brightly coloured, floor-length dresses, and their headgear is particularly distinctive. The elaborate headdresses, designed to resemble the horns of cattle, hold deep symbolic meaning within their culture. Cattle are sacred to the Ovaherero, influencing much of their folklore, dances, and even their clothing.

This cultural experience is a rare opportunity to engage with Namibia’s past while gaining an appreciation for the traditions that continue to shape its present.

The village is located on Farm Ombu, just off the B1, approximately 48 km from Otjiwarongo and 122 km from Okahandja. Positioned halfway between Etosha National Park and Windhoek, it’s ideally situated for visitors travelling between these two major attractions.
