Things we recommend

  • Spending the first night in the capital to acclimatise and rest up before tackling the dirt roads.
  • Make sure to always have drinking water in the vehicle.
  • Wear sunscreen and hats.
  • Do not leave any valuables visibly in the vehicle (cameras, phones, laptops etc.).
  • Make sure to always have both (two) spare tyres.

Day 1: Arrival in Windhoek

You have arrived at Hosea Kutako International Airport for your Namibian Self-Drive Adventure. Your transfer shuttle will be waiting for you. Should time permit we can arrange for a Windhoek City and Township Tour. Alternatively you can spend the rest of the day at leisure, relaxing by the hotel pool and recovering from your flight.

Activities offered in the area: Windhoek City & Township Tours, Day visit to the Naankuse Large Cat Sanctuary.

Day 2&3: Sossusvlei

Enjoy a scenic drive from Windhoek to Sesriem. This route will offer plenty of photographic opportunities make sure you have your camera batteries charged. You will be spending two nights in the Namib Desert, so there will be plenty of time to explore the surrounding area by your-self or with pre-booked guided excursions.

Watch the sun set over the oldest desert in the world and witness the amazing colour changes over the towering dunes.

This area offers a great variety of campsites and lodges. There are also plenty of interesting excursions and activities available.

Points of interest: Sesriem, Sossusvlei Vlei, Bid Daddy, Dune 45

Day 4&5: Swakopmund

Today you will head to the small sleepy town of Swakopmund. Rich in German architecture and history, this town offers a range of activities and excursions.

From romantic catamaran dolphin cruises to adrenaline filled dune boarding and quad biking, there is something to do for everyone. Try Tandem Sky Diving or join a full day exploring the Sandwich Harbour and surrounding areas. Visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony or explore Swakopmund on foot. We also recommend visiting the Karakul Weavers, with plenty of souvenir shops to choose from too.

Day 6: Southern Damaraland

You will make your way to Southern Damaraland. This area offers some spectacular scenery and wildlife.

Points of interest: Brandberg Mountain, World Famous Rock Paintings at Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forrest & Organ Pipes. 

Activities offered in the area: Guided Desert Elephant Tracking & Nature / Game Drives, Hiking Trails.


Day 7: Northern Damaraland

Boasting with stunning landscapes and wildlife, you can explore the Grootberg Plateau, with most of the lodges in the area offering guided excursion and activities.

Points of interest: Grootberg Plateau, Guided Hikes & Visiting a couple of authentic homesteads of the Damara people.

Activities offered in the area: Desert Elephant Tracking, Black Rhino Tracking and a visit to a local Himba or Damara Village.


Day 8-11: Etosha National Park (Inside or Outside the park)

You will head north towards Etosha National Park, home to four out of the big five (Elephant, Rhino, Leopard & Lion). The park itself is well laid out so it will be pretty easy to navigate. There are many different waterholes where you can stop at for some excellent game viewing and photographic opportunities.

Activities offered in the area: AM / PM Guided Game Drives as well as night time game drives with knowledgeable Guides / Rangers.


Day 12&13: Grootfontein Region

Today you will leave Etosha National Park heading north-east towards the Caprivi Strip. A great area for a stop-over en-route from Etosha National Park..

Points of interest: Hoba Meteorite, the largest ‘space object’ on Earth and a national monument. Dragon’s Breath cave, which holds the worlds’ largest underground lake, or view the largest bottomless “sinkhole” Lake Oshikoto.

Activities offered in the area: Game & Nature Drives, Hiking Trails, Bird & Wildlife, Bushmen (San) Village Visit where you can explore the Ju’/Hansi Education Centre. Learn how Bushmen hunt, make fire and jewellery.


Day 14&15: Western Caprivi Strip

Make your way to the Kavango Region after breakfast. From here you can explore Popa Falls and the Bwabwata National Park.

Day 16: Eastern Caprivi Strip

You will head to the River Kwando set in the Eastern Caprivi Strip. The perfect base to explore Mudumu and Nkasa Rupara, formerly known as Mamili National Park. This area is rich in wildlife, expect to see Buffalo, Elephants, Crocodiles and a many different species of Antelope. This area makes for amazing bird watching as there are more than 300 different bird species that live here.

Day 17&18: Chobe National Park

Today you will be crossing the border to Botswana and make your way to Chobe National Park. This area rich in bird and wildlife. Chances are good that you get to see large herds of elephants, drinking at the rivers’ edge. Head out and explore Chobe National Park at your leisure. Guided game drives are available and need to be pre-booked.

Day 19&20: Victoria Falls

Your rental vehicle will be collected from the lodge. A transfer to Victoria Falls or Kasane is arranged in order to avoid a complicated and pricey border crossing (with the vehicle). We can arrange for a variety of activities and excursion based on and around the falls; such as helicopter scenic flights, white water rafting, bungee jumping and elephant rides.

Day 21: Your adventure ends today
